Dan Gilbert Video: Lessons on Entrepreneurship, Business and Life

There are some great lessons and perspective on entrepreneurship and life in this video from Dan Gilbert, Chairman of Quicken Loans, Owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Founding Partner at Rockbridge Growth Equity.

My favorite quote: “give what the greedy man won’t, and you’ll get what the greedy man wants.” You have to give to receive. Dan discusses that idea and many more.

  1. “A brain economy instead of a muscle economy”- Dan Gilbert
“Money doesn’t lead it follows” – Dan Gilbert

Lots of great sound bites from this and a lot to learn. Kudos to Dan for talking about Detroit and Cleveland in the same light. The greedy man quote is a good one. Entrepreneurs can change the way people in Detroit think and if more people went about trying to chase their dream with a clear head and what they want to do. This economy can improve. Not everyone is a going to be a small business owner but people need to embrace them and so does the government so it is easier for them to start their businesses.

    • Spot on Jamie. I think having a clear head about what you REALLY want to do in life is the challenge these days. So many distractions, so little substance. As Dan says, nothing clarifies like clarity. I also think that’s why the 80/20 rule is catching on in so many circles: there’s comfort and POWER in finding the 20% of your efforts that generate 80% of your results.

And small business owners do need to be embraced…if everyone thought like a scrappy, bootstrapping, small business owner, our larger companies, governments, and organizations would be light years beyond where they are now.
